Our lives are programmed by the world PART 2

The world tells us who we are, what to believe in and what to strive for. And we buy into it.

What the world does, basically, is to feed into our lower instincts. In the supermarket we are bombarded with products that make our inner caveman go berserk. Many food manufacturers even employ people that are experts at manipulating our instincts. Five-year-olds can go into the store and buy candy full of addictive sugar, that in many cases are the beginnings of lives of obesity, with bullying, stigmatization, physical pain, diseases, medical costs and early death. And the same five-year olds often get smartphones with social media apps that are just as addictive as gambling. And if they don’t get them at five, they at least most certainly have them before they hit their teens. But adults get punished if they get caught smoking a little cannabis.

In a sense, those that claim that everything is a social construct are right. And yet, they are dead wrong with regards to the conclusions that they draw from it. Because if we just adopt another identity, we do not at all escape the social constructs. In fact, the “unique” identity that you are encouraged to adopt because of social norms, might be just the thing that truly turns you into a copy.

The world tells us that we need lots of sex and lots of stuff. I think everyone knows this at this point. More specifically, when it comes to sex, it tells men that they are failures if they don’t have lots of sex, and women that they are failures if they do. On top of that, it tells women that it’s men’s fault that promiscuous women are viewed this way. And men that they are using women for pleasure if they are promiscuous.

My view is, knowing what power there is in sex, that sex is something that we should be very careful with, no matter if we are men or women, but that no one has the right to judge us for our choices as long as we don’t force anyone to do anything. And this is actually quite important in this context. Since if we are programmed to have a totally insane approach to one of the most fundamental and powerful aspects of existence, this will obviously lead to loads of confusion. And confused people are easy to control.

The world tells us that men are perpetrators and women are victims. It says that we are supposed to be competitive to survive. As men, we are supposed to be strong, successful and confident, but also vulnerable and emotional when appropriate. Women are also supposed to be competitive these days, while the role of the housewife is frowned upon and viewed as weak and perpetuating gender stereotypes. Luckily, due to hidden dumping of salaries through inflation, very few couples can afford this type of domestic arrangement anyway. Which is great... If you own a big company where you can set your own salary. Because you see, inflation is good for the super rich, but bad for everyone else. But you're not supposed to think about this. Instead you're supposed to think about how many migrants that come into our countries, how many pronouns there are or how offended or not offended you should be with regards to certain issues, all depending on what political IDENTITY you have been PROGRAMMED to adopt.

And who wins on this system in the end? Well, the greatest wealth transfer in history just took place, to the richest people, from everyone else. This was made possible by the same politicians that say that they are looking out for your best interests. The same politicians that govern over the laws and policies that create our shallow, artificial society and perpetuate its social values.

If we want to take our power back, we need to become aware of all the ways that we are being manipulated and start taking steps to free ourselves from the dominant culture. For me, this means to always strive to be more conscious of what I’m doing and the choices that I make on a daily basis. It means becoming clear about who I truly want to be and what life I truly want to live. It means to take responsibility for the situation that I am in, move out in the countryside again, start taking steps towards living more autonomously and seek cooperation with like-minded people.

If any of this resonates with you, will you just passively allow the world to shape your life into something inauthentic? A life with less and less freedom, both financial and personal. Or will you start freeing yourself?
