Our lives are programmed by the world PART 1

We are programmed to strive for the same things: Enjoy life while you’re young, then get a stabile career, make lots of money, borrow money to buy a home, save for retirement, buy stuff, obey the law, learn and follow the cultural norms. And by the way, gender is just a social construct and any type of sexual experimentation between consensual adults is healthy. And you should put your own happiness first, there is nothing wrong whatsoever with being distracted by entertainment during all of your spare-time or that family cohesion for most people seems a thing of the past. It’s just our norms for interaction that are changing we assume. Because we suck at assessing the long-term consequences of the choices that we make today. And how much deliberation we engage in before making a choice has in many cases become arbitrary.

We crave constant stimulation, change and novelty. Because this is how the world shapes us into functioning, when we don’t stop and think of what is going on. We want to be seen, approved of and validated. We’re fragmented and never build anything that lasts. Because as soon as we’re not satisfied with what we have, we owe it to ourselves to replace it with something new. Instead of trying to make what we have better. Even if this constant change will one day lead to us waking up to a life where we’ve gotten nowhere. And to be clear, this is something that has happened to me personally.

I could go on and on. There is probably material for a whole book about social programming out there (maybe I should write one?) The point is that when you open your eyes to all of the totally insane things that you take for granted, you will start seeing it everywhere.
